Tension in Orahovac after murder of two Serb youths

New crimes over Serbs

Orahovac, Dec 4 (Tanjug).- The Friday murder of two Serb youths and the wounding of a third in the Orahovac area in Serbia's Kosovo-Metohija province has increased tension in the town and the mistrust of locals in international KFOR peacekeepers, local amateur radio operators report.

The crime was committed in a forest between the Velika Hoca and Zociste villages near Orahovac. Zociste has already been ethnically cleansed of its Serb inhabitants, and Serbs in Orahovac believe that the killers are probably from that village.

Investigating the crime, Major Schuvermans of the German KFOR contingent brought with him to Velika Hoca an ethnic Albanian interpreter. Dissatisfied with his wrong translation, upset local Serbs attacked the interpreter and the German major pulled out his gun to defend him.

Investigation demonstrated that the bodies had more than five bullet wounds each and that one had been shot in the head from close range.

The murdered Serb youths had been unarmed.

Local Serbs said the killing demonstrated that international KFOR peacekeepers are unable to provide safety and protection to the few Serbs who have not fled the Orahovac area, or to halt ethnic Albanian terrorism.
